About Us
History
Communications were simpler in 1974 when Gil Cook and his partner started Maryland
Telephone with three employees. The most sophisticated businesses had touch-tone
phones and perhaps an intercom with a buzzer. Maryland Telephone offered innovative
products such as answering machines, automatic call distributors and call sequencers,
which were designed to improve hold times in customer service departments and help
businesses operate more efficiently.
Gil's son, Michael joined the company in 1980 and his brother, John Cook became
a part of the team in 1983. In the mid 1980s, the family-owned business began offering
telephone systems, partnering with Inter-Tel in 1984. Since that time, we have joined
forces with other top names in communications products and services which include
Mitel, Inter-Tel, Verizon, and many others to offer comprehensive, high-quality
communications services. Today Maryland Telephone has grown to a staff of 35 dedicated
people, most of whom have been with us for many years.
Mission
Our mission is to reduce our customers' costs while improving their telecommunications
capabilities. As basic as this mission statement sounds, it has been a successful
one for Maryland Telephone, ensuring us consistent growth since 1974 and helping
us expand into the global marketplace.
Service, Service, Service!
That's our philosophy in a nutshell. The finest products in the world are worthless
if you can't get the support you need to use them. That's why the majority of our
staff — in fact, 75% — is dedicated to support and service. Our technicians have
an average of six years with Maryland Telephone and some have been with us for as
many as 15 years! That's one of the reasons we've been so successful in building
long-term relationships with our customers.
